The Lamborghini Huracan Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder has been unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show a year after the LP580-2 coupe sibling made its debut.

As with the LP580-2 coupe, the Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder is powered by a slightly detuned version of the company’s naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10. The motor generates 426kW of power at 8000rpm and 540Nm of torque at 6500rpm, all of which is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With a dry weight of 1509 kilograms, the Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder is 120kg heavier than the LP580-2 coupe.

Lamborghini claims that the Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder can blast through the 0-100km/h standard in 3.6 seconds, and hit a top speed of 319km/h. Compared to the LP580-2 coupe, the Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder is 0.2 seconds slower to 100km/h, and has a 1km/h lower top speed.

To counterbalance the weight penalty, drivers to get to enjoy a bit of alfresco driving. The Spyder’s roof opens and closes in 17 seconds, and can be operated at speeds up to 50km/h.

Like the LP580-2 coupe, the Spyder is said to have a 40/60 front-to-rear weight distribution, and has a retuned steering setup, as well as traction and stability control systems. Options include magneto rheological suspension and a dynamic steering system.
